DENNIS G. MENDOROS OBE, DL, FRAeS, LAE

Dennis is a qualified Aeronautical Engineer licensed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority since 1977.  He studied Aeronautical Engineering in Perth, Scotland and the Hellenic Airforce Engineering Academy. He has over 40 years experience in the international aerospace industry.

Dennis is a Fellow of the UK Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS); a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA); a Member of the Cost Estimating Society of the USA and a Non-Destructive Testing Engineer.

Following service in the Hellenic Airforce as an Engineer at the Tactical Airforce Headquarters, he was employed by General Electric in 1979 as an Evaluation Engineer.  Dennis then progressed to become a Quality Assurance Specialist and then Head of Foreign Contracts for Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) in Greece. Whilst at HAI he was in charge of all Aero-Engine Programmes including RAF, NATO, USAF and major international manufacturing companies.

In December 1987 he resigned from HAI and in January 1988 started his own business, Euravia Engineering & Supply Co Ltd based in East Lancashire (Kelbrook).  Dennis led and managed Euravia’s growth from a one-man company to a dynamic, successful and expanding company involved in the design, refurbishment and testing of high-speed turbine aero-engines.  Euravia’s strategic development also led to the development of Post Design Services (PDS) and the development of integrated management information systems for aerospace applications.

In May 2015 he sold Euravia Engineering to Magellan Aerospace (TSX: MAL) and became Euravia’s President to May 2017.

In June 2017 he founded MENDO Enterprises delivering business development expertise with a sophisticated approach and using the latest technology aimed at the best chance of sustainable growth and success.

Dennis’ commitment, expertise and main achievements have been recognised as follows:

  • In 2001 awarded OBE for services to industry
  • In 2004 commissioned a Deputy Lieutenant for Lancashire
  • In 2007 received from the Northwest Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) the Frank Whittle Award in appreciation for his leadership of the Consortium of Lancashire Aerospace (CLA) and the Northwest Aerospace Alliance.
  • In 2008 received the lifetime achievement ‘Lancastrian of the Year Award’
  • In 2008 elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society
  • In 2010 commissioned the High Sheriff of Lancashire by HM The Queen

In addition, for 30 years Dennis has been successfully involved in establishing, leading, supporting and encouraging several highly effective national initiatives and partnerships between the private, public and voluntary sectors, aimed at increasing investment in the area and improving the economy.  In doing so he has worked very closely with leading representatives of national, local and regional authorities and those of the commercial world thus gaining a strong understanding of the interface between them.

A founder member and inaugural Chairman of the North West Aerospace Alliance from 1993 to December 2006 and, as Chairman, he directed the transformation of the organisation which in 2006 represented 750 Aerospace and Defence companies in the North West with £7B turnover and combined workforce of 60,000 people.  He was founding Chairman of Pendle Strategic Partnership from 1994 to 2005 and continues to be Chairman of Pendle Vision Board at the present time.

Dennis is the Founding Chairman of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, an organisation owned by six local authorities in the County Council, responsible for the delivery of the strategic, economic and regeneration programme across Pennine Lancashire.

He is currently a board member of Lancashire Enterprise Partnership and chairman of the Lancashire European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF) committee, an integral part of the UK governance structure required to deliver the current England 2014-2020 European Funding Programmes.

During the past 30 years Dennis has served many organisations across the private, public and voluntary sectors including:

  • Managing Director / CEO / President of Euravia Engineering Co. Ltd from 1988 to 2017
  • President of MENDO Enterprises form 2017 to date.
  • Chairman of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire from 2009 to 2014.
  • Board Member of the North-West Development Agency (NWDA) from 1998 to 2008. The NWDA is responsible for economic and social development, regeneration, business efficiency, competitiveness and investment. Dennis has served as: –
    1. Chairman of Auditing Committee, 1999 to 2002
    2. Chairman of Innovation and Technology Advisory Board, 1999 to 2004. He led and launched the NWDA Northwest Innovation Strategy which evolved into the creation of the Northwest Science Council
    3. Chairman of Innovation & Knowledge Group, Sept 2002 to 2004
    4. Chairman of Business Development Group, 2000 to 2002
    5. Vice Chairman of Business Development Support Group, 2002 to 2004
    6. Board Member responsible for ICT (e-business), Aerospace and Innovation
    7. Board Member of the Infra-structure, Rural and Regeneration Groups
  • Founder Member and elected Chairman of the North-West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) from 1993 to December 2006 (previously known as the Consortium of Lancashire Aerospace, CLA). The NWAA represents over 750 Aerospace and Defence contractors in the North West with over £7 billion annual turnover and a combined workforce of just over 60,000 people.  During the first 10 years the NWAA has assisted in developing over £300 million of new business opportunities for its member companies; created or safeguarded 2,000 jobs across the Northwest and promoted the industry internationally where more than 100,000 visitors attended the NWAA stands and conferences.  The NWAA is recognised as the international model for aerospace regional partnerships and is of key strategic importance to both the Northwest and the UK.
  • Founder Chairman of the Pendle Strategic Partnership from 1994 to 2005. A partnership representing the Public, Private and Voluntary sectors in Pendle aimed at encouraging investments and attracting funding from the Government and the European Union.  During its first 10 years the Pendle Partnership generated over £185 million of investment programmes for Pendle.
  • Chairman of the Pendle Vision Board (PVB) from 2008 to date. PVB is a dynamic partnership promoting the economic regeneration of Pendle by bringing together influential companies, Pendle Council and other agencies from the Public Sector. The PVB has focused its £63 million investment priorities in the regeneration of Nelson’s Town Centre, developing key strategic employment sites and promoting business support initiatives.
  • Member of the Bank of England North-West Economic Panel from 1995 to 2008.
  • Member of the Court of Lancaster University since 2004.
  • Board Member of the Northern Way Transport Compact from 2005 to 2009. Representing the Northwest Private Sector.
  • Trustee of the Science & Technology Museum in Manchester, also Member of the Auditing Committee from1998 to 2004.
  • Member of the Propulsion Technical Activity Committee (PTEC) for the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) from 1996 to 2006.
  • Member of the National Aerospace Forum (NAeF) from 1999 to 2006, the aerospace committee representing the Society of British Aerospace Companies and Regional Aerospace Organisations responsible for co-ordinating Aerospace strategy across the UK.

Following the formation of EURAVIA in 1988 Dennis made his home in Lancashire.  His hobbies include flying, boating and diving.  He also enjoys reading political and economic affairs.
